Lough Derg Yacht Club is one of the two bases for the Shannon One-Design class (the other being Lough Ree Yacht Club). This is an 18 foot clinker-built wooden dinghy designed by the famous Morgan Giles in 1921. It has a very active following on the Shannon, with approximately 100 boats in the class. The Shannon One-Design Association holds plans and specifications, and oversees the compliance of new builds to the specification. There are currently about 100 boats of this design in existence.
