The Agnes Burns Cottage & Visitor Centre is situated adjacent to Stephenstown Pond Amenity Park. This cottage was once the home of Agnes Burns and her husband William Galt (Agnes was the sister of Scotland’s National Poet, Robert Burns – famous for writing such lyrics as Auld Lang Syne and My Love is Like a Red Red Rose). Agnes with her husband William (who designed and built Stephenstown Pond for the local landlord, Matthew Fortescue) lived in this cottage until Agnes died in 1834 (William died in 1847). Both are buried in Dundalk in St Nicholas’s Cemetery burial grounds.
