UCC Library brings together many sources of information not readily available elsewhere in Munster. They include books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, together with the professional expertise to interpret the collections to its users. Its primary purpose is to serve the University by ‘supporting study, teaching and research as efficiently as possible’ (Library Regulations L.R. 2). In addition to being a University resource, UCC Library has the capacity to provide a valuable service to the community in many fields of endeavour. UCC has always welcomed the relationship between town and gown and extended Library services for the benefit of research into the arts, science and technology and social studies, provided there was no conflict between these external services and that owed to members of the College.
