Cape Clear Museum is housed in a restored old schoolhouse and contains some several hundred artefacts of island maritime and folklife interest. There are, to date, over 100 framed exhibition panels in the collection which deal with fourteen different themes of island heritage. Aspects covered in the exhibition panels include : Island History, Shipwrecks, Archaeology, Signal Towers and Telegraphs, Placenames, Famine, Education, Genealogy, Folk and farm, Fishing, Boatbuilding and the Baltimore Fishery School. The story of the building of the Fastnet Lighthouse and that of the 1979 Fastnet Race is presented in an audio-visual Display as well as in mounted exhibition panels. Aspects of the history of the O Driscoll Family Worldwide also feature.
