West of Glencolmcille is one of the few safe landing places along this coast. Open clinker punts, built in Sligo or Burtonport, are lifted above the waterline by winches, some of which are still in situ. An old hand-operated model, a large engine-driven winch and a modern electric winch were present at time of visit.
