The cottage that houses the Lackagh Museum in County Mayo, was abandoned and fell into disrepair in the 1970s and in recent years it has been completely and lovingly restored as a traditional Irish cottage. Its golden thatched roof was replaced by local crafts people. The cottage and its out house contain many artefacts and treasures left behind by our ancestors and these show a way of life that has all but disappeared. From the open fireand butter churns to a dresser full of beautiful crockery and a spinning wheel, these are just some of the valuable treasures the visitor will see in the cottage. An impressive display of farm machinery is also forms part of our exhibition.
