Leixlip Castle is built on a rock where the Rivers Liffey and Rye converge. Currently home to the Hon. Desmond Guinness, founder of the Irish Georgian Society.Interesting features within the grounds of the castle are the gothic greenhouse, the temple seat, the gazebo and the Gate Lodge.The house hosts a 17th century Brussels tapestry of Theodotus offering Pompey’s head to Caesar. The Dining Room contains Chippendale Chairs and Bavarian tapestries. The plasterwork of the Library is mid 18th Century and the carpet is French Savonnerie. The Drawing Room has a very big 18th C. Dolls House, originally from Newbridge House, as well as drawings of the Mitford sisters by William Acton.
