The Nora Barnacle House museum is the smallest museum in Ireland. This was the tiny family home of Nora Barnacle, the wife and muse of James Joyce. The eldest of seven children, she lived here with her mother and siblings until she left Galway in 1904. The Nora Barnacle House, built in the 1800s, is the smallest house in the street and has accommodation consisting of just two rooms and a tiny back yard. The ground floor room served as a kitchen and dining room and sometimes as a bedroom. James Joyce first met his mother-in-law in this house. The building, which has been restored to its 1900s condition, is full of letters, photographs and memorabilia giving a snapshot of the lives of the Joyces and the Barnacles. Guided tours are available in summer.
