The County Museum in Roscommon hosts a range of unique items relating to the history of Roscommon including a ninth century inscribed slab from St Comans foundation, an exact replica of the Cross of Cong which is inscribed ‘made in Roscommon’, and a ‘beautiful’ example of a ‘Sheela na Gig’ (a figurative carving of a naked lady) from Rahara. The Museum is housed in the old Presbyterian Church which was built in the 1860s. There is also a collection of horse drawn farm machinery, displayed in the yard behind the museum. Now run by County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society, their journal can be bought there. The Roscommon Tourist Information Office is currently housed in the same building.
