At Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, you will enjoy a genuinely warm Irish welcome. A professional guided tour and excellent facilities await the weary explorer. If you wish to connect with ancestors and deities and walk in their footsteps, then visit us at the Ancient Capital of Connacht. The Visitor Centre hosts modern interpretive rooms, chronicling 6,000 years of human activity and interaction. We aim to reconnect you to this mysterious landscape. Rathcroghan boasts a multitude of monument types: stretching from the first farmers of prehistoric Ireland, to the skeletal remains of a medieval metropolis created by the O’Conor kings of Connacht. Kings were inaugurated at the ceremonial centre at Rathcroghan, and the site was witness to the rise and fall of great tribes and dynastic families. Some of these went on to rule the whole island as high kings, ensuring the continuing legacy of this unique complex well into the medieval period and beyond.
