An old established club, founded in 1770. One of the two bases for the “Shannon One-Design” (the other being the Lough Derg Yacht Club). This is an 18 foot clinker-built wooden dinghy designed by the famous Morgan Giles in 1921. It has a very active following on the Shannon, with approximately 100 boats in the class. The Shannon One-Design Association holds plans and specifications, and oversees the compliance of new builds to the specification. There are currently about 100 boats of this design in existence.
