Exhibiting one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic to the 20th Century. The Hunt Museum collects, exhibits, preserves, documents, and promotes the Hunt Collection, and its own collections, to maximise their cultural and educational potential for the people of Limerick and Ireland. At present, The Hunt Museum develops and provides many activities, such as Tours around the museum, Arts and Crafts Classes, Kids Activities, Camps and Lectures. Our Docents and volunteers will help you to create great family days or to learn more through our guided tours. During a visit to The Hunt Museum you can choose to explore the collection by yourself or take one of our regular guided tours. The tour can be a Highlights tour or for (pre-booked groups) explore a theme or focus on particular areas or objects from the exhibition. During a Highlights tour our expert guides will explore the Hunt Collection and the lives of the collectors. You can view the art of: Picasso, Renoir and Yeats; Stunning works from medieval times and examine weapons and tools from the Celtic period; A visit to our Jewellery Gallery, to view the Mary Queen of Scots Cross, and to the Treasury, to see the Greek coin reputed to be “one of the thirty pieces of silver” paid to Judas for the betrayal of Christ is also included. Those that choose to explore the exhibition unguided can discuss the artefacts on an informal basis with our Docent guides who are available in the galleries. Pre-booking is recommended for groups.
